OLPH Preschool opened in 1996 as the Coachella Valley’s first Catholic Preschool. Offering a nurturing, early childhood educational program for little ones, we currently enroll approximately 50 students annually, and the staff consists of a director, three teachers, and one assistant. The daily structure and activities our preschoolers enjoy serve to prepare them for socialization and the more challenging curriculum of Kindergarten, future grades, and the world at large. Preschool hours are from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. The program is run September through mid-June with a summer school program in June, July, and August.
In 2017, our new Preschool building is slated to open with brand new facilities, fixtures, and furniture, and an anticipated increased enrollment of 60-80 students annually.
Parents are an important part of our preschool program. They participate by coming in as guest speakers, assisting teachers in the classroom, and preparing children’s projects at home. They are also valuable in raising funds to improve our facility and help OLPH by donating food and supplies for the snack and lunch program. In the past, our parents have even participated in the construction and maintenance of our facilities.
OLPH Preschool is an official certified member of NAP-SACC (Nutrition and Physical Activity Self-Assessment for Child Care). A visit from a Riverside County Nutritionist Supervisor affirmed the great job our preschool teachers are doing. Because of this affirmation, OLPH Preschool is now recognized and listed on the NAP SACC certified provider database.
What does this mean? It means our preschool staff will continue to provide our children a preschool program (along with the required curriculum) that includes the following:
- Childhood Obesity Prevention Practices
- Healthy Nutrition for Young Children
- Physical Activity for Young Children
- Personal Health and Wellness for Staff
- Working with Families to Promote Healthy Weight Behaviors
